11th May 2007 - 2 Staff and you have a flipchart? What's that all about?

On visiting our offices recently, a friend noticed the flipchart in my room.  A quick glance around confirmed that there really was only me and one other in the office...so 'what's the flip chart for?'  presentations to...one person?  Actually no, presentations to myself!  In the age of computers, smartphones and MP3 digitised zapo gadgets, I find there's no better exercise than scrobbling random thoughts on a flipchart and standing 2 yards away, thumb and fore finger on chin pondering said thoughts.

In a process I can only liken to problem solving in your sleep, if you scribble ideas on a flipchart and stare at them long enough, solutions often appear.  Or even leave them there in the background over a day, and at some point new ideas and solutions can just appear.  It's a like going on a long journey where you're not really paying too much attention to the route....yet next time, you seem to know where to go when you get there..."oh I remember turning left by this post office".  The brain seems to have enormous capacities beyond conscious thought, but it's a rare thing to be able to consciously use this.

Anyway, if you're in the process of setting up your own business, stick a flipchart on your shopping list, you'll be surprised how much it will come in handy.
