16th April 2007 - Err, what was I supposed to be doing? Sometimes it call all get a little too much, business and personal chaos overlap and you feel like your loosing the plot!
If your the sort of person who always pushes for more out of life (a good quality in business!) there are times when it can all get a little too chaotic. There are only so many spaces in your active brain in which to process tasks, deal with challenges and so on. Rather than this gradually filling, and gradually reducing your mental capacity, there does seem to be a point at which you fall off the edge, and nothing is possible until something vacates a space in your head, by choice or by accident!
At times like this, there's no substitute for a rational meeting with yourself to list all the tasks that are present, assign levels of priority, and then allocate a time to complete...once you've done this the only thing to worry about then is 1) the next task on your list 2) keeping up with your schedule.
This may all sound a little obvious, but in the heat of the moment it can be difficult to see the wood from the trees. I reckon I'm pretty dynamic, but not so great with too much structure, so I like to fly at loads of tasks, regrouping occasionally to work out what to do next. a regimented list can seem too boring, too constrained. However, on days like today, it's the only way of recovering the stability and sanity required to get things done.
So, pen, paper, cup of tea.....You'll be surprised how quickly you can clear some stuff, also you'll realise half of it wasn't the big deal you thought it was, then start flying around again filling up your head as you please.
