28th July - 2007 - Back into the employment coldran

The reality is, no matter what you say in the heat of the moment, you can't hide away from the needs of the business if you want to progress, even if there's pain involved.  We seem to go through a series of problems due to the employment of staff which completely took my eye off the business, hence the comments that I wouldn't enter the emlpoyment pot ever again.

In the cold light of day, ironic though it may seem to admitt from a recruitment consultant, I made some recruitment mistakes.  I let the company need for extra people overtake my rational in recruiting.  Our geographical location is such that we simply do not have access to buckets of experienced people to choose from.  The problem was, I had persuaded myself that extra hands were 'do or die' at that time.  In practise this was nonsense.  With the benefit of hindsight, I should have restructure operations to remain stable throughout a potentially long wait for the right people.

On this occasion, search engine optimisation has become abssolutely key to the future of the business.  Outside suppliers were proving erratic, if not down right unreliable.  Their techiniques and charges offered only benefit while you are paying, with no investment value for their input.  In contrast, a string employee offers investment value to the business in building sustainable strategy for the current and future websites.  In recent months, I have self taught SEO techniques to allow for a lengthy search for the right person.  strangely, this time around, I wa spoilt for choice in the first month of searching ??
