3 out of 4 employers are freezing recruitment plans
It appears the credit crunch may finally be hitting the recruitment sector. Until, the recruitment sector has remained buoyant with the exception of the odd sector.
The news is the result of a recruitment survey by law firm Peninsula Law who quizzed 1400 employers from around the UK. They have been taking some 3000 calls a week from employers on the subject of redundancy.
It's a natural response to economic uncertainty to freeze recruitment activities, many companies don't know what shape they will need to take to see the crisis out, so recruitment now would simply create more heads to juggle or even loose.
Up until now the recruitment markets have generally remained stable, and indeed in London, the prospect of the 2012 Olympics seemed to have given a welcome boost to many sectors. If this research is a reflection of recruitment markets in general it may spell a gloomey spell ahead for recruitment agencies in the UK.
For employers, it's another headache in an already difficult time. Employment law, and that pertaining to redundancy has never been more complicated. The winners in all this will be employment law firms offering help and advice on redundancy.
