5th April 2007 - Having the patience to see things through.

I, Like so many in life, am guilty of constant impatience.  Always wanting, and looking for more....yesterday.  There are advantages to this in business, always hussling to find better ways to do more and achieve more, starting new initiatives to drive for better results.  In the many psycho babble tests I've done over the years I was always labelled a 'starter', and 'ideas man'.  But as the years have rolled on in business, I've had to learn to be a 'finisher' and also to have a little patience, and the courage to see ideas through before darting off in a new direction.

So often I have had ideas, formulated a plan and implemented action, only to subsequently become disatissfied with it's results and look for alternative actions.  In actual fact, most of the time, if I'd bothered to look back at the original plan to see what outcomes I had predicted and in what timescale, tihngs had actually been going to plan, if not ahead of it.   But it's as though there's a self destruct button inside that just expects everything to happen yesterday, and when it doesn't it takes action which actually prevents it from happening tomorrow!

Now I think I'm finally getting the knack.  Although I sometimes mistake my new found patience as a loss of dynamism, I feel I'm am making more from the ideas I have.  The main difference in practise, and the morale from this log, is to write down your expectations clearly when you fomulate the plan, following the usual pesamistic approach for safety, and then refer to it each time you begin to question whether or not you plot was a good one in the first place, in whether, in fact, you simply haven't given it enough time.
