9th May 2007 - No More Mr Nice Guy

I arrived at my desk this morning to learn that I had an appointment booked in for two nice men from the bank.  It's not the first time, in fact, it's probably about the 5th time they've changed staff and requested a visit.

After years of bashing down doors selling I have developed a sympathetic ear to people wishing to pay me a visit.  The problem is, there's only so many hours in the day, and most of them are not visiting for our benefit...no...they do of course want to flog us something, and the bank are no exception.

In our case, we have had a string of problems with banking.  We only really need to contact the bank 4 or 5 times a year, but when we do, it's normally a problem which needs resolution quickly.  In our experience, they are awful at solving our problems at all, let alone quickly.  So, these two chaps visiting today were little more than a punch bag, with little hope of pursuing their agenda of flogging me a pension that'll buy me a yatch and a healthcare scheme that could bring me back from the grave.

At the end of giving these two chaps a good verbal kicking (through no real fault of their own) they left tail between legs, and the realisation dawned that I had just wasted a good hour of my day for nothing, and, indeed, so had they!!

The moral is, unless they can give you a clear reason which is of benefit to you, don't let them book an appointment with you, or on the same notion, don't take their phone call, it's a complete waste of everyone's time!
