April 26th 2007 - Patience is a virtue

I think patience, or lack of it, has been a subject of a previous diary log.  The business has now changed from what we originally set out to do.  The recruitment business we started 5 and half years ago was dynamic and fast moving.  This creates both excitement but also a constant pressure with the ever present need to be generating new placements to meet the running costs of the business.

Now, the internet business is a subscription business, a gradual climber with a sustainable base which  should just grow constantly but gradually.  It has to be said that the search for a subscription business was by design in order to produce a less stressful existence.  Generally speaking, the strategy has worked in terms of day to day existence, but, unexpectedly, it has introduced a new stress...a stress arising due to the much slower rate of change!!  Rather than the daily quest to generate extra recruitment processes, life now consists of finding new strategic ways forward to grow a little faster, implementing and watching to see the effect.  All sounds okay, but we may be talking only a small handful of ideas a month, implemenetd over another month, with another couple of months to see whether the impact is desired.

Aaah, nothings happening quickly enough!

In reality, it is, it's just a different pace to what I was used to.  4 Weeks ago we launchd our new sales jobs board www.uksales-careers.co.uk .  Until yesterday, I had looked everyday on the search engines and it was nowhere to be seen.  Every day I thought disaster, all that money on a new site, and for what, nothing!  Now 4 weeks on it's appeared, and appeared strongly, regsitering front page listings on msn straight away.  Now I'm thinking 'what a performance, fantastic'.

Of course in the cold light of day, we didn't expect anything for weeks anyway, yet I spent every day expending energy looking at it.

I guess the morale is to make your judgements, implement yuor initiative and then let tmie do it's thing!
