Banks graduate recruitment to hold firm.
One could be forgiven for making the assumption that banks graduate recruitment processes would be curtailed at present. New reports indicate that this may be the case.
The times has produced research to show that many top 100 graduate employers predict their graduate recruitment schemes will run at the same level in 2008. In particular, the graduate development manager at HSBC, John Morewood at HSBC explains that their graduate recruitment scheme is a longer term project than you may think. They recruit graduates with the intention of producing their senior managers from them in around an 8 year time frame.
This means that if they were to curtail their graduate recruitment schemes now due to what are relatively short term economic factors, this would leave them short in years to come.
The research is surprisingly optimistic with more than a half of the 100 top graduate employers looking to maintain graduate recruitment levels into 2009. Some with plans to increase levels of recruitment, for example the public sector up by 20% and the armed forces up by 12%.
