Too many graduates, not enough graduate jobs!

In the last decade the government has pushed hard to drive more people into higher education. But with graduates now outstripping graduates jobs have they pushed to far.

In some cases it has appeared farcical as small educational institutions everywhere converted to Universities.  the old school have claimed that this has downgraded degrees.  Whether or not this comment has any value, what does appear to be true is that there are now more graduates than graduate jobs.

A report by the CBI quotes that there are 10.1 million graduates now but only 9 million graduate jobs available.  The situation is likely to worsen with and estimation of 50% of young people having degrees by 2010, meaning the figure of 1 million people in jobs for which they are over qualified is only likely to rise.

Given the investment in driving more people into higher education, the government may now ned to rethink it's policy on this issue.
